News Release - 2005.09.10
TSA Software Group (TSASG) announces the release of SSAnalyzer 1.0.

SSAnalyzer is a unique tool for Visual SourceSafe that will identify and assist the user in correcting improperly branched or duplicated files.

Using advanced text algorithms to identify non-effective file differences (formatting, comments, etc), SSAnalyzer displays effective vs. non-effective changes for closely matching files, making it much easier for the user to find those few REAL differences among thousands of lines of code.

Typical file and code redundancy can be reduced by an average of 20%, greatly reducing maintenance problems, increasing the speed of SourceSafe, and enhancing the accuracy of third-party source code reporting packages.

Tools and Add-ons

Standard VSS Utilities Microsoft Several utility programs are included with VSS
VssDataWiz Microsoft VssDatawiz is a beta-level utility designed to clean up orphan files and branches. VssDataWiz can run against a live database. It produces a report of errors in the VssDataWiz log and a batch file (FixData.bat) to correct the errors.

Be sure to download Fixref which is required to execute the batch file.

VssDataWiz is the precursor to a utility that will be included with VSS 2005.

FixRef Microsoft FixRef is a beta-utility that is required by VssDataWiz in order to execute the FixData.bat batch file.

Be sure to download VssDataWiz which creates the FixData.bat batch file.

Utility for SourceSafe Administrators Microsoft Currently, it is not possible to migrate or copy a list of users and their concominant rights/assignments from an existing VSS database to another one, using either shipped VSS features or programmatically, using IVSS. However, our capable friends in Microsoft's Product Support Services (PSS) have developed a tool that can perform this task automatically.
